Halong Bay – Introduction of Ha Long Bay – Geographical location

Ha Long bay is located in the Northeast of Vietnam, in Quang Ninh province, about 165 kms from Hanoi.

It covers a total area of 1.553 km2 with 1.969 islands (980 of them were named). It stretches from Quang Yen town to the end of Van Don district to the North and Northwest; it is adjacent to the west of the Tonkin Gulf to the Southeast and the South and adjacent to Cat Ba island (Hai Phong city) to the Southwest.

The nominated area is 434 km2 with 775 islands, 411 of them were named. This area gathers a number of limestone islands, beautiful caves and famous beaches.

It is limited by 3 places: Dau Go island (in the West), Dau Be island (in the South) and Cong Tay island (in the East).
