Harbor potential
Ha Long bay is a closed and calm bay, one of the main traffic gateways of the North of Vietnam. The dense system of natural channels and little sedimented estuaries are ideal conditions for the construction of seaports, especially deep-water ports.
Cai Lan harbor is the deepest-water harbor in the North of Vietnam. It is located in the North of Ha Long city, near Cua Luc bay. Cai Lan harbor has a favorable condition: the favorable location in the closed bay, deep water, little sedimented channels, the deeper draft- 10m and the deep water in front of the harbor – 13m. The harbor has 7 docks, allowed to receive ships with a tonnage of over 70.000 tons.
Fish catching and aquaculture potential.
Ha Long bay area has a temperate climate, large tidal area, clear water, inshore and offshore fishing grounds with high and various marine reserves, and other favorable conditions suitable to aquaculture and fish catching.
Currently, cage aquaculture in Ha Long bay is being implemented according to the aquaculture planning. It must comply with the current regulations, ensure security, safety and cause no harm to the landscape and environment of the heritage.
